Biography

Sabi "Doc" Kumar is a Republican member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, representing District 66 since 2015. A retired general, vascular, and endoscopic surgeon, he is the first Indian American elected to the Tennessee State House and chairs the House Insurance Committee. Notable achievements include holding five patents for surgical devices sold nationwide and abroad through his company, Nashville Surgical Instruments; re-elections in 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024; and over 43 years practicing surgery in Robertson County until retiring in 2020, serving more than 100,000 patients. He serves on additional committees including Calendar & Rules, Health, and various Insurance and Population Health subcommittees. Married to Linda since 1981, with daughter Nina ; longtime members of First United Methodist Church in Springfield.
