Biography
Arthur J. “Doc” Corvese is a Democratic member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 55 in North Providence since January 2003. He previously served consecutively from January 1999 to January 2003 in District 71. As an optometrist, he is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Rhode Island Optometric Association. Notable achievements include sponsoring a 2024 law requiring health care facilities to have automatic external defibrillators, championing the phase-out of the car tax, expanding health care coverage, securing additional funding for schools and child protection, and addressing EBT fraud. He currently serves as Deputy Majority Leader, Chair of the House Labor Committee , Second Vice Chair of the House State Government and Elections Committee, and member of the House Judiciary and House Rules Committees. He is also secretary of the Rhode Island Democratic State Committee and a member of the North Providence Democratic Town Committee.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of North Providence High School; Bachelor of Science in biology from Providence College ; Doctor of Optometry from New England College of Optometry .
- Political Experience: Served on the North Providence School Committee ; first elected to the Rhode Island House in November 1998; long-term leadership roles including Deputy Majority Leader.
