Biography
Diana C. Moreno represents New York State Assembly District 36 in Queens, including Astoria and Long Island City. Born in 1988 in Quito, Ecuador, she immigrated to the United States at age 11 to escape a financial crisis; she later moved to Queens from Florida in 2019. A Queens mom, immigrant organizer, and democratic socialist, Moreno won a special election in 2026 with 74% of the vote, marking the first electoral victory for Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYC-DSA in that cycle. Her politics stem from her working-class roots and over a decade of labor organizing, including unionizing faculty, protecting migrant farmworkers, organizing undocumented workers, and supporting nurses. Notable achievements include serving as communications manager for the New York State Nurses Association and co-chair of NYC-DSA’s Queens chapter; she advocates for taxing the ultra-wealthy and corporations to address affordability, supports Mamdani’s agenda, and fights fascism while defending Queens.
