Dexter Sharper is a former American politician and Democrat who represented Georgia House District 177 from 2013 until his resignation in March 2026. A lifelong Valdosta resident, he previously served as Mayor Pro Tem and City Councilman, and worked as a business consultant, entrepreneur , Georgia-certified paramedic for 20 years, executive music producer, musician, and recording artist. He is married to Chequella Shipman Sharper with four children: Brittany, Dexter II, Dylan, and Lauren. Sharper won re-election in 2022 but resigned after federal charges for fraudulently obtaining over $325 weekly in pandemic unemployment benefits from April 2020 to May 2021 while employed as a state representative, operating his party rental business , and working as a musician .
