Biography
Senator Devin LeMahieu
Devin LeMahieu is a Republican politician who serves as the Majority Leader of the Wisconsin State Senate, representing Senate District 9, which encompasses Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Fond du Lac, and Calumet Counties.
Born on August 8, 1972, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, LeMahieu is a native of Sheboygan County with deep roots in his community. He currently resides in Oostburg, where he owns and operates the Lakeshore Weekly, a local news publication serving the Sheboygan County area.
Beyond his professional endeavors, LeMahieu is an accomplished athlete and active community member. He has successfully completed 12 Ironman triathlons and is an avid golfer. He maintains memberships in the Manitowoc and Sheboygan County Chambers of Commerce and serves as a deacon at Bethel OPC. His father, Daniel, served in the Wisconsin Assembly for 12 years, influencing LeMahieu's own path toward public service.
Education
LeMahieu graduated from Sheboygan County Christian High School in 1991. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Political Science from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, in 1995.
Political Experience
LeMahieu's public service began at the local level when he was elected to the Sheboygan County Board of Supervisors in 2006, serving for nine years. He chaired the Human Resources Committee from 2010 to 2014 and served on the Finance and Executive Committees.
He was first elected to the Wisconsin State Senate in 2014, succeeding Joe Leibham, with 59.95% of the vote. He has been reelected twice—in 2018 with 58.47% of the vote and in 2022 with 93.64% of the vote.
In 2020, LeMahieu was elected by his colleagues as Senate Majority Leader, a position he has held since 2021. In this role, he guided the Senate through significant legislative initiatives and helped craft a historic bipartisan budget that cut taxes by more than $3 billion—the largest tax cut in Wisconsin state history. He is also known for authoring the REINS Act, which empowered the legislature to halt costly executive-branch regulations affecting private sector growth. Currently, he serves on the Committee of Senate Organization, the Joint Committee of Employment Relations, the Joint Committee on Legislative Organization, and the Joint Legislative Council.
