Biography
Derrin R. Owens is a Republican politician serving as Utah State Senator for District 27, which covers parts of Garfield, Juab, Kane, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, Utah, Washington, and Wayne counties. Born on April 7 in Show Low, his pioneer ancestors helped settle Juab and Millard counties, and the family later moved to eastern Arizona. He is married to Heather, with four sons and one daughter; two sons serve in the US military, and he is a grandfather. Previously, he represented House District 58 starting in 2015 after appointment by Governor Herbert. Notable roles include service on the House Natural Resources Committee, Business and Economic Development Committee, and as co-chair of the House Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee. He focuses on conservative values and rural Utah issues.
Education and Political Experience
Owens worked 23 years as an educator, fulfilling his dream of serving as a high school counselor. In 2015, he entered politics as a Utah House Representative for District 58 following a special election. He later transitioned to the Utah State Senate for District 27, continuing to advocate for his constituents.
