Biography

Representative Derrick Jackson

Derrick L. Jackson was born on January 11, 1966, and is an American politician currently serving as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives representing District 68. He is a retired U.S. Navy officer with a 22-year military career and has built a distinguished career spanning military service, corporate management, and public service.

Jackson is known for his integrity, honesty, and commitment to community leadership. He has received numerous recognitions including the 2013 Fayette County Citizen of the Year award, the 2019 Civil Servant of the Year RICE Award, and was recognized as one of Atlanta Business Journal's 2019 Top 25 Extraordinary Atlantans. He is married to CaMia Jackson, a former state representative of House District 153, and they have seven adult children and one grandson together.

Education and Professional Background

Jackson worked as a senior marketing manager for General Electric, where he spent nearly seven years identifying significant global market opportunities and managing international strategic partnerships. He also serves as an adjunct professor and lecturer. Currently, he is pursuing a doctoral degree at Walden University in public policy and has been inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society and Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.

Beyond his professional roles, Jackson is actively involved in community service as a non-profit board member and serves on several non-profit organization boards. He is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., a Silver-Life member of the NAACP, and a proud member of Elizabeth Baptist Church.

Jackson was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2016, representing District 64. He stepped away from his House seat in 2022 to seek the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor. In 2023, he was elected again to the Georgia House of Representatives in a special election to replace his successor, Tish Naghise. In June 2025, Jackson announced his candidacy for governor of Georgia in the 2026 gubernatorial election. He currently serves on several House committees including Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Defense & Veterans Affairs, Regulated Industries, and State Planning & Community Affairs.
