ABOUT
Deqa Dhalac was born in Somalia. She moved to Maine in 1992 after escaping civil war. Dhalac was elected to the South Portland City Council in 2018, becoming the first Somali immigrant elected to office in Maine. She serves on various local committees focusing on housing, sustainability, and diversity issues. Dhalac has twin sons and enjoys gardening, reading, and volunteering in her community. She earned degrees in Africa and now runs a interpreting agency, helping new Mainers access social services.read less
