Deon T. Tedder is a Democratic member of the South Carolina Senate representing District 42 . Born on April 26, 1990, he is an attorney specializing in personal injury, product liability, and criminal defense, currently with Rogers, Patrick, Westbrook & Brickman . Notable achievements include recognition as a Top 40 Under 40 Personal Injury Attorney by the National Black Lawyers Association and a 2022-23 Super Lawyers Rising Star. He serves as Co-Chair of the South Carolina chapter of the Future Caucus and holds committee assignments in Senate Judiciary, Fish Game and Forestry, Family and Veterans' Services, Corrections and Penology, and Medical Affairs.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: B.A. from South Carolina State University ; J.D. from University of South Carolina School of Law .
• Early Public Service: Worked in the office of the late Senator Edward Kennedy on the Health, Education, Labor & Pension Committee; served as Guardian Ad Litem for Richland County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates program.
• Professional Legal Career: Attorney at David Aylor Law Offices ; member of American Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association, Charleston County Bar Association, South Carolina Association for Justice, and South Carolina Black Lawyers Association.
• Political Experience: Elected to South Carolina House of Representatives for District 109 in 2020 , where he was Treasurer of the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus, served on Education and Public Works and Operations and Management Committees, passed legislation supporting HBCUs, and backed clean energy and electric vehicle technology. Won Senate District 42 special election in 2023 after a close runoff. Recent Senate efforts include securing federal aid for child nutrition, protecting small businesses, and amending the Permitless Carry Bill to prevent racial profiling. Co-founded the progressive Freedom Caucus of South Carolina.
