Before his election as lieutenant governor, Heck served four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives representing Washington's 10th congressional district from 2013 to 2021. Political Experience

Heck's political career began early in his adult life. Starting in 1976, he was elected to five terms in the Washington House of Representatives, representing the 17th legislative district in Clark, Skamania, and Klickitat counties. His colleagues selected him as House Majority Leader, the second-ranking position in the chamber. During his tenure, he co-chaired the Education Committee and was a prime author of Washington's historic Basic Education Act.

After his state legislative career, Heck served as Chief of Staff to Governor Booth Gardner. He later co-founded TVW, Washington state's public affairs television network, where he served as CEO and hosted the weekly public affairs program "Inside Olympia."

His entrepreneurial background includes co-founding Intrepid Learning Solutions, a Seattle-based company that grew from 2 to 300 employees. He also co-founded, with his spouse, the Principals' Emergency Checkbook Fund, which provides assistance to low-income students.

During his congressional service, Heck was appointed to the House Intelligence Committee and the Financial Services Committee, positions that gave him significant responsibilities in national security oversight and economic policy.
