Biography
Denise Mentzer is a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 61st District since 2023. The district covers Mount Clemens, parts of eastern and southeastern Sterling Heights, and various areas of Clinton Township, serving approximately 93,156 constituents. Born on May 4 in Mount Clemens, she is single and resides in Mount Clemens. Elected in 2022 and reelected in 2024, she serves her second term and holds positions including Assistant Democratic Whip , Minority Vice Chair of the Homeland Security & Foreign Influence Oversight Subcommittee, and member of the State & Local Assistance Programs Oversight Subcommittee.
Notable achievements include nearly 10 years on the Mount Clemens City Commission , where she advocated for transparency through quarterly departmental reports and budget oversight. In the legislature, she supported the BRITE Act for enhanced lobbyist reporting and public official disclosures, repeal of Michigan's pension tax on seniors, tax breaks for working families, and securing $10 million for demolishing the abandoned Victory Inn to build new housing units in Macomb County. She is a strong advocate for clean water infrastructure, affordable healthcare, public education, economic growth, and bodily autonomy. In 2025, she broke party lines to support enforcing a federal ban on transgender girls in women's sports at the state level.
