Biography
Denis Márquez Lebrón is a Puerto Rican lawyer and politician born on October 5, 1963, in Gurabo, Puerto Rico. He represents the Partido Independentista Puertorriqueño ** as a Representative **at-large in the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, a position he has held since January 2017 after being elected in 2016, re-elected in 2020, and again in 2024. The youngest of four siblings, he grew up in the Celada barrio of Gurabo, attending public schools before pursuing higher education. Notable achievements include leading the PIP's legal team in the "folders case," securing a landmark victory recognizing discrimination against a political party in Puerto Rican courts for the first time; serving as the party's Spokesperson and Secretary of Political Organization in the House; and specializing in labor law, representing unions and children with special needs in class actions.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus ; Juris Doctor from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico School of Law. Taught as a professor at Universidad Politécnica and in law, civil, commercial, and social sciences courses at various universities .
- Political Experience: Began in PIP's Youth in Gurabo; municipal legislator and committee president there; Electoral Commissioner for Precinct 2, San Juan ; chaired post-2008 Evaluation Commission; Secretary of Political Education ; advisor to PIP legislative delegation ; private practice in labor law with José Torres Valentín.
