Biography
Demetrius Douglas is a Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 78, which includes parts of Clayton and Henry counties such as Jonesboro, Lake Spivey, Lovejoy, Stockbridge, Morrow, and McDonough. Born on June 8, 1967, in Atlanta, Georgia, he grew up on the Southside of Atlanta and has resided in Henry County with his wife Veda and their two daughters, Destiny and Demi. A former professional football player, mortgage broker, real estate investor, and youth football coach, Douglas was first elected to the House in July 2012. He serves as a deacon at Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral and is known for his community involvement motivating youth.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended Lakeshore High School in College Park, earning All-American honors in football and basketball; played as a defensive linebacker at the University of Georgia under coach Vince Dooley.
- Professional Background: Excelled for 15 years in the mortgage industry, including five years as an entrepreneur; transitioned to real estate investing; coached football at Arlington Christian School, Henry W. Grady High School, Lovejoy High School, and currently at Dutchtown High School.
