Biography
Della Au Belatti is a Democratic member of the Hawaii House of Representatives, representing District 26 on Oahu, which includes areas such as Makiki, Tantalus, Papakōlea, McCully, Pāwa‘a, and Mānoa.
Born on March 14, 1974, in Manoa, Hawaii, Della Au Belatti has served in the Hawaii House since 2006. She initially represented District 25 , then District 24 , and District 26 since 2022. As a practicing attorney and former school teacher, she held key leadership roles including House Majority Leader and Vice Speaker . Notable achievements include chairing the House Health and Homelessness Committee and Public Safety Committee, strong advocacy for women's health care, medical aid in dying, and mental health services, and co-founding the Patsy Takemoto Mink Legislative Fellowship Program. She is a member of the Women’s Legislative Caucus and previously served on the Hawai‘i State Campaign Spending Commission and Hawaii Access to Justice Commission. In September 2025, she announced her candidacy for U.S. House from Hawaii's 1st congressional district.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated as valedictorian from Maryknoll School; BA in History from Princeton University ; JD from William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa . She taught at Trenton Central High School after Princeton and clerked for Hawai‘i Supreme Court Justice Simeon R. Acoba Jr.
- Political Experience: Elected in 2006 after winning the Democratic primary and general election for District 25; unopposed in 2008 and 2010. Redistricted to District 24 in 2012, serving until 2022. Current term in District 26 began November 8, 2022. Serves on the Consumer Protection and Commerce Committee; previously Majority Leader and chair of Health and Homelessness Committee.
