Biography
Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann
Charles Delbert Hosemann Jr. was born on June 30, 1947, in Warren County, Mississippi. He is a Republican politician and attorney who currently serves as the 33rd Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi, a position he has held since January 2020.
Before his entry into public service, Hosemann had an extensive career in the private sector as a businessman and tax lawyer. He was a former partner at Phelps Dunbar, LLP, where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions and business law for over three decades.
Hosemann is a practicing Catholic and is married to Lynn. He has three children: Kristen, Chad, and Mark.

Hosemann holds three advanced degrees:

Political Experience
*Lieutenant Governor *
Hosemann was elected Lieutenant Governor in November 2019 with over 60 percent of the vote, defeating Democratic state representative Jay Hughes. He was sworn in on January 14, 2020, and was re-elected to a second term in November 2023, again receiving more than 60 percent of the vote. In the 2023 Republican primary, he defeated far-right State Senator Chris McDaniel with 52 percent to 43 percent, and then defeated Democratic candidate Ryan Grover in the general election with 61 percent to 39 percent.
As Lieutenant Governor, Hosemann serves as President of the 52-member Mississippi State Senate. His legislative achievements include overseeing the implementation of the largest teacher pay raise and largest tax cut in state history, moving Mississippi to one of the lowest income tax rates in the nation. He has also championed school funding formula reform, workforce development consolidation, performance-based economic development incentives, and reduction of state debt by $1.2 billion.
*Secretary of State *
Hosemann served three terms as Mississippi's Secretary of State, making him the first Republican to hold the position since Reconstruction. His tenure focused on election integrity and modernization efforts. Key accomplishments include:
- Revising Mississippi's business laws and automating legal filings
- Implementing voter ID laws that have increased election security and remained unchallenged in courts
- Championing a constitutional Voter ID amendment while other states faced costly litigation
- Modernizing business registration systems
In 2022, he received the Major General Charles Dick Medal of Merit from the National Guard Association of the United States for efforts to make voting more accessible for overseas servicemembers.
Other Service
Hosemann served in the United States Army Reserves and has been involved in various civic and charitable organizations, including the American Red Cross, Mississippi Blood Services, and Jackson State University Development Foundation.
