Biography

Debra Jean Entenman is a Democratic member of the Washington House of Representatives, representing the 47th Legislative District in King County, which includes parts of South King County such as Kent. A woman of color, parent, and grandparent, she grew up in the Rainier Vista low-income housing project in Seattle and has dedicated her career to public service, education advocacy, and community issues. She was elected in 2018, defeating Republican incumbent Mark Hargrove with 53% of the vote, and assumed office on January 14, 2019. Notable achievements include passing her first bill, HB 1055, in February 2019 to crack down on sex traffickers by allowing warrantless arrests; serving on the Renton Technical College Board of Trustees since her 2015 appointment by Governor Jay Inslee; and earning endorsement from The Seattle Times.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Earned an Associate of Arts from Highline Community College in 2001 and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Seattle University in 2003 as a non-traditional student and mother of two. An inaugural participant in the Seattle/King County Head Start program, she is passionate about education access for all ages.
  • Political Experience: Worked for Children's Alliance, advocating for children; served 12 years with U.S. Congressman Adam Smith, including as his District Director managing South King County outreach. Previously on boards for Neighborhood House and Kent Youth and Family Services; current member of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle. Lives in Kent with her husband.
