Biography
Debra Bazemore is a Democratic State Representative for Georgia House District 69, encompassing parts of Fayette and Fulton counties, including South Fulton and Riverdale. Originally from New York, she founded and presided over Concerned Parents, advocating for students and earning the Frederick Douglass Award for Community Service. In 2005, she relocated to unincorporated Fulton County , where she served as former president of Old National Area Residents United, chair/vice chair of South Fulton United, and helped facilitate over 100 presentations to support city incorporation. She began state-level work as chief of staff to a state senator and previously served District 63 from 2017-2023 before redistricting to 69 in 2023. Notable achievements include receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Humanitarianism from Global International Alliance, President Joe Biden’s Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award , a Trailblazer Award , and selection as a Henry Toll Fellow. She is a member of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, founder of the Annual Career and Health Fair at Skyview High School , and holds leadership roles such as Chief Deputy Whip for the House Minority Caucus , Regional Director/Chair for the National Black Caucus of State Legislators, Founding Co-Chair of the Georgia-Israel Legislative Caucus, Vice Chair of the Women Legislative Committee and City of South Fulton House Delegation, and member of the South Metro Coalition and Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Entertainment Committee.
