Biography

Deborah Silcox

Deborah Silcox is a Republican State Representative from Georgia representing District 53. She grew up in Sandy Springs and is an attorney, mother, and community activist. Silcox practiced law for ten years before stepping back from her partnership to raise her family. During her time away from law practice, she became deeply involved in community service, serving on the boards of the Junior League of Atlanta, the Atlanta Speech School, Hands on Georgia, and the Chastain Park Conservancy.

Throughout her career, Silcox has held several appointive positions including service on the Department of Human Resources Board and the Governor's Commission for Volunteerism and Service, where she later served as Chairman under Governor Nathan Deal. She was honored as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Women in Georgia by Engineering Georgia magazine and received the "White Rose Award" from the Israeli Consul General for her work on behalf of Jewish Georgians. The Georgia Chamber of Commerce named her "Freshman Legislator of the Year."

Silcox is married to Daniel and has two adult children.

Education

Silcox graduated from Riverwood High School in Sandy Springs. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia and her Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law.

Political Experience

Silcox was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2016, representing District 52, serving until 2020. In 2022, following the 2020 census redistricting, she was reelected to represent the newly configured House District 53, where she continues to serve.

Her legislative roles include Chairman of the MARTOC ** and **Vice Chair of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee. She also serves as a member of several committees including Code Revision, Health, Judiciary, and Urban Affairs. Additionally, she serves as one of two State Representatives on the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust. Speaker David Ralston appointed her as Deputy Whip during her tenure.

In 2019, she was chosen to represent Georgia on an economic development trip as a guest of the Japanese government.
