Debo Powers

Debo Powers is a Democratic representative serving Montana House District 3. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the Naval Hospital, she grew up moving frequently due to her father's career as a Naval aviator. She currently resides north of Polebridge, Montana, adjacent to Glacier National Park and surrounded by public lands.

Education and Political Experience

Powers is a retired public-school teacher and principal with 21 years of experience teaching U.S. History and Government at the high school level. She first served as Montana State Representative for House District 3 after being appointed in October 2019 to fill a vacancy when the former representative resigned. She served in this appointed position until January 2021.

After losing her bid for election in November 2020, Powers ran again in 2024 and won decisively, securing 993 votes compared to her opponent's 363 votes. She was elected to the position in November 2024 and began serving in the 2025 legislative session.

Notable Achievements and Community Involvement

Powers brings extensive experience in public service and consensus-building across diverse groups. She has served on the board of directors for Headwaters Montana, a conservation organization, and worked as Chief Election Judge for Precinct 47 in Whitefish during the November 2018 election. Currently, she serves as a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources Interim Budget. Her background combines conservation advocacy, education, and demonstrated commitment to democratic processes.
