Biography

Debbie Powers is a Republican representative for Caledonia-1 in the Vermont House of Representatives, serving since 2025. A lifelong Vermonter, she grew up on a dairy farm in Ira, Vermont, attending a one-room schoolhouse at Ira Central School and graduating from Mill River Union High School in 1984. She married her husband Kevin in 1986 after milking cows that morning, and they have four children and three grandchildren. The family resides in Waterford, where they built The Powers Agency insurance business in St. Johnsbury. Powers has worked in agriculture, including dairy farming from 1986–1999, 2000–2001, and 2008, and currently serves as a Customer Service Representative at Powers Agency since 2016. She is active in volunteer work, having coached girls’ basketball and taught physical education at Union Baptist Christian School for 10 years and served at Concord Community Church. Her interests include collecting thimbles, traveling, trying new foods, and family time. She advocates for affordable property taxes, supporting Vermont's agricultural heritage, and managing natural resources for hunters, anglers, trappers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Education and Political Experience

Education: Powers earned a degree in Agriculture Business from Vermont Technical College in 1986.

Political Experience: Elected to the Vermont House of Representatives for Caledonia-1 as a Republican in 2025–present. Her father previously served in the Vermont House, and her mother was a schoolteacher involved in town offices.
