Senator Debbie Mayfield

Deborah Janell Mayfield was born on December 2, 1956, and is a Republican member of the Florida Senate representing District 19, which encompasses part of Brevard County. She was elected to her current Senate seat on June 10, 2025. Mayfield is a retired banking executive from Melbourne and is a member of the Catholic faith.

Education

Mayfield attended Santa Fe Community College and completed the Florida Banking School.

Political Experience

Mayfield has had an extensive career in Florida politics spanning multiple decades:

  • Florida House of Representatives: Served from 2008 to 2016, representing District 53, and again from 2024 to 2025, representing District 32. She held the position of Majority Deputy Whip from 2009 to 2010.

  • Florida Senate: First elected in 2016, she served until 2024 and was promoted to Senate Majority Leader from 2020 to 2022—a notable leadership position within the chamber.

  • Current Committee Assignments: She chairs the Governmental Oversight and Accountability Committee and serves as Vice Chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee. She also sits on the Appropriations Committee on Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development; Commerce and Tourism; Finance and Tax; Fiscal Policy; and Regulated Industries committees.
