Biography
Dean Murray is a Republican and Conservative Party member representing Senate District 3 in the New York State Senate. Prior to entering politics, he worked in broadcasting and business. In 1985, he graduated with honors from the Broadcast Institute of Maryland. He spent ten years working in radio and television news across Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York. During this period, he covered the Pennsylvania State Capital for over 100 radio stations and served on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Associated Press. He also played five seasons of semi-pro football with the Chambersburg Cardinals and York Lions.
In 1994, Murray moved to Long Island to work as an Advertising Sales Representative for TCI Cable, where he was promoted to Regional Sales Manager serving the Tri-State area. In 1997, he founded his own advertising agency, D && S Advertising, Inc. The company published several specialty publications, including the Long Island Job Finder, Long Island Pet Lover, and Long Island Fugitive Finder. Murray has been active in community service, serving as a member of several Chamber of Commerce chapters throughout Suffolk County, a board member with the Patchogue Medford Youth & Community Services, a member of the Focus East Patchogue Civic Organization, a member of the Suffolk County Police Reserves, and a member of the Suffolk County Workforce Investment Board. He resides in East Patchogue.

Political Experience
Murray was first elected to serve in the New York State Assembly in a special election in February 2010 and was re-elected in November 2010. Following a two-year break, he returned to the Assembly in 2015, where he served for another four years. During his time in the Assembly, he led efforts to repeal the MTA payroll tax, eliminate the salt-water fishing license fee, pass a middle class tax cut, and adopt the I-STOP program to address prescription drug abuse. He served on various Assembly committees, including Aging, Education, Small Business, Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development, Transportation, Banks, and Economic Development.
Murray was elected to represent Senate District 3 in 2022 and assumed office on January 1, 2023. He won re-election in the general election on November 5, 2024. His current term ends on January 1, 2027. In the State Senate, he serves as Ranking Member for the Committees on Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business; Libraries; and Social Services. He is also a member of the Committees on Codes; Crime Victims, Crime and Correction; Higher Education; and the Joint Senate Task Force on Opioids, Addiction & Overdose Prevention.
