Biography
Dawn Addis is a Democrat representing California's 30th Assembly District, which includes parts of Monterey, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Cruz counties. Born July 12, 1972, she is a former special education teacher, activist, and politician elected to the State Assembly in November 2022, assuming office on December 5, 2022, and reelected in 2024 with 62.4% of the vote. She is the first Democrat to represent the majority of San Luis Obispo County in the Assembly since 1947 and the first Democratic woman in this seat. Notable achievements include chairing the Assembly Select Committee on Offshore Wind Energy, serving as Vice Chair of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus, and being the Assembly appointee to the Ocean Protection Council. She previously served on the Morro Bay City Council as mayor pro tempore and co-founded the San Luis Obispo Women's March chapter. Key legislation includes AB 1243 , AB 2034 , and advocacy for offshore wind, childhood sexual assault victims, and stronger DUI laws.
