Biography
David Wheeler is an American attorney and former Republican state senator from South Dakota's 22nd District, representing Beadle and Kingsbury counties. Born on November 24, 1979, in Huron, South Dakota, he served in the South Dakota Senate from January 12, 2021, until his resignation on April 24, 2025, ahead of his appointment as a circuit judge in the Third Judicial Circuit by Governor Larry Rhoden on April 25, 2025. Notable roles include seven years on the Huron School Board and appointment to the South Dakota Lottery Commission by Governor Dennis Daugaard; he practiced law as a partner at Blue, Wheeler & Banks LLP, handling prosecution and public defense.
