Biography

J. David Weeks is a Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 51 in Sumter County since 2000. A native of Sumter, South Carolina, he is an attorney and politician who has served as chief minority whip for the House Democratic Caucus. Notable achievements include being named 2003 “Legislator of the Year” by the Sumter Chapter of the National Federation for the Blind, and recognition from the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs, South Carolina Conservation League, and Alliance for Children for his legislative work. He previously chaired the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus and now serves as Vice Chair of the House Ethics Committee and a member of the Ways and Means and House Judiciary Committees. Weeks is married to Cheryl Elaine Hannibal, with whom he has two children, and resides in Sumter.
