Biography
David Richter is an American politician and educator who has served as a member of the North Dakota House of Representatives since December 2018, representing District 1. He is a Republican and currently shares his district representation with Patrick Hatlestad. Richter resides in Williston, North Dakota.
Beyond his legislative work, Richter is a retired college faculty member and holds the title of Professor Emeritus. He has been involved in various community organizations, serving on the Advisory Board for Northwest Human Services, the Williston Community Coalition, and the Board of Western Region Economic Development and North Star Human Service Zone.
Richter is married to Debbie and has three children and eight grandchildren.
Education
Richter holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Minot State University and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Wayne State College. He has also completed graduate studies at the University of Wyoming.
Political Experience
Richter announced his candidacy for state representative in February 2018. He won the Republican primary in June 2018, finishing ahead of incumbent Patrick Hatlestad, and both candidates subsequently won the November general election. He was sworn in as a representative on December 1, 2018, succeeding Gary Sukut.
In his legislative work, Richter has demonstrated strong support for education and public service policies, voting in favor of such measures 81.5% of the time. He sponsored HB 1494, an anti-meal shaming bill that addressed concerns about student dignity during school meals.
