Biography
Delegate David Reid represents Virginia's 28th House District, located in the eastern portion of Loudoun County, including Ashburn, Broadlands, parts of Brambleton, Sterling, and Algonkian. Born January 14, 1962, in Lexington, Virginia, he grew up poor in the Virginia mountains and was placed in the United Methodist Children’s Home orphanage in Richmond at age 10 before moving to Oklahoma with foster parents. He is married to Barbara E. Reid, with two daughters, Elizabeth and Rebecca, and is a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Tahlequah Sr. High School, OK ; B.A., Northeastern Oklahoma State University, OK ; Master's, Joint Military Intelligence College, Washington, DC .
- Military Service: U.S. Navy Reserve ; first in his family’s 250-year Virginia history to earn a college degree.
- Political Career: First elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2017 ; serves on House Appropriations Committee, Vice Chair of Transportation Committee, and Privileges & Elections Committee. Co-Chair of the General Assembly’s Military and Veterans Caucus for six years; Chair of the Small Business Commission; Vice Chair of the Chesapeake Bay Advisory Commission; members of Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and Transportation Planning Board.
- Notable Achievements: Passed over 50 bipartisan bills signed into law, including the nation's only state reparations legislation, protection for prime agricultural land from pipelines, and Virginia's first strategic plan for veterans, military service members, and families. Retired profession; now a full-time delegate.
