Biography
David J. Place is a Republican representative for Rhode Island House District 47, which includes most of Burrillville and parts of Glocester. He has served in the Rhode Island House of Representatives since his election in November 2018 and was re-elected in 2020. In June 2022, he was unanimously elected as House Minority Whip, the second-highest leadership position in the Republican delegation. Place serves on committees including Judiciary, Rules, Health and Human Services, Oversight, Municipal Government, and Veterans' Affairs. Notable achievements include supporting tax reductions, improved government functions, and economic initiatives during his freshman year , as well as advocating for local interests in state resource distribution. Prior to the House, he served on the Burrillville Town Council , chairing Screening and Audit Sub-Committees, and on the Harrisville Fire District Operations Committee , including its Water, Fire, and Collective Bargaining teams. A U.S. Army veteran, he served 10 years as a staff sergeant and M1A1 Abrams tank commander, deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom II, and received decorations for leadership and heroism in combat. He is a former machinist, holds a full-time role as a stay-at-home dad, and resides with his wife, Erin Todisco-Place, and their three children: daughters Michelle and Amalia, and son Warren.
