Biography
David Orentlicher is a Democratic member of the Nevada Assembly representing District 20 in Clark County, encompassing the southeast side of Las Vegas. Born in 1955 in Washington, D.C., he is an educator, physician, attorney, and professor at UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law, where he serves as the Judge Jack and Lulu Lehman Professor and director of the UNLV Health Law Program. He previously served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 2002 to 2008, representing the 86th District. First elected to the Nevada Assembly in 2020, he won reelection in 2022 and 2024, serving through 2025 sessions. Notable achievements include authoring legislation to increase access to opioid treatment, reduce overdose deaths, promote job creation, protect children from abuse, and make health care more affordable; recognized as the 2023 Tobacco Control Elected Official Champion by the Nevada Tobacco Control & Smoke-Free Coalition; health policy adviser for Barack Obama and Joe Biden presidential campaigns; ranked #7 among U.S. constitutional law scholars by ScholarGPS in 2025; and scholarship cited by the U.S. Supreme Court. He is married to Judy with two children, Cy and Shay.
