Biography
David Hackney is a Democratic member of the Washington House of Representatives representing the 11th Legislative District , which includes Tukwila, Renton, parts of Kent, and areas like Georgetown and South Park in Seattle and unincorporated King County. Born on December 15, 1965, in Cleveland, Ohio, he is a progressive attorney with over 30 years of experience in criminal, labor, and international law. First elected in 2020 after defeating incumbent Zack Hudgins in the Democratic primary, he assumed office on January 11, 2021, serving alongside Steve Bergquist. Notable achievements include serving as a federal prosecutor , international war crimes prosecutor for the United Nations, training prosecutors in Kosovo for the U.S. Department of Justice, and working as lead employment counsel for The Nature Conservancy. He previously served on the Washington State Human Rights Commission and the board of King County Habitat for Humanity. Community efforts include managing a church kitchen for the homeless, fundraising for a school in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and criminal justice reform in Uzbekistan.
