Biography
David Blount is a Democratic State Senator representing District 29 in Mississippi, which includes parts of Hinds County such as Jackson, Byram, and Terry. Born on July 19, 1967, in Jackson, Mississippi, he is an 8th-generation Mississippian, son of Richard and Martha Blount, and an Episcopalian. He is married to Katherine , with two children, Susanna and Charley, and is active in his church, neighborhood, and community. Elected to the Mississippi State Senate in 2007 and serving since 2008, he was re-elected in November 2023 with 78% of the vote. Notable achievements include authoring the Mississippi Armed Forces Absentee Voting Act, helping pass the Winter-Reed teacher loan repayment program, and advocating for campaign finance reform and increased voter participation. He serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus, Vice Chairman of the Senate Education Committee , and Chairman of the Senate Gaming Committee. Awards include Mississippi Business Journal "Top 40 Under 40," Horizon Award from the Mississippi Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities, and Legislator of the Year from the Mississippi chapter of the Association of Education and Rehabilitation for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
