Biography
Dave Yost
David Anthony Yost was born on December 22, 1956, and is a Republican politician and lawyer serving as Ohio's 51st Attorney General since January 2019. He resides in Franklin County, Ohio, with his wife, Darlene, and has three adult children and three grandchildren.
Yost began his public service career in local government before ascending to statewide office. He served as Delaware County Auditor starting in 1999 and became Delaware County Prosecutor in 2003, where he won the county's first-ever capital case and dismantled the largest drug ring in the county's history.
Education
Yost earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Ohio State University and his Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School. Before entering public service, he worked as a journalist with the Columbus Citizen-Journal.
Political Experience
State Auditor : Yost was elected Ohio's 32nd State Auditor in 2010. During his two terms as Auditor of State, he helped convict 170 corrupt public officials, uncovered $30 million in stolen and misspent public funds, and identified potential savings of $287 million for governments and school districts. He also championed charter school accountability through General Assembly reforms.
Attorney General : Yost was elected Attorney General in November 2018, defeating Democrat Steve Dettelbach, who served as United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. He was re-elected in November 2022, receiving more votes than any other attorney general in Ohio's history. As Attorney General, his priorities include protecting consumers, rooting out corruption, defending the environment, and combating the opioid epidemic and human trafficking.
