Biography
Senator David P. Sokola ** represents **Delaware's 8th Senate District, which includes Newark, Pike Creek, and North Star. First elected to the Delaware State Senate in 1990, he has served continuously since then and was selected by his peers as President Pro Tempore starting in 2020 . He is renowned for advancing education reforms, environmental protections, balanced budgets, and key legislation such as graduated driver's licenses, marriage equality, public benefit corporation law, charter schools , school choice programs, a ban on high-capacity magazines, gun safety measures including assault weapon prohibitions and permit-to-purchase requirements, a $15 minimum wage , paid family and medical leave, and expansions in abortion access and nondiscrimination laws.
