Biography

Dave Sires is a Republican State Senator representing District 38 in the Iowa Senate, which includes parts of Black Hawk, Tama, and Benton counties, such as Cedar Falls, La Porte City, Traer, and Dysart. Born in 1960 in Cedar Falls at Sartori Memorial Hospital, he is a businessman who, with his wife Lisa , owns and operates Added Self Storage and previously managed Cedar Village, a manufactured housing community, until 2025. They have three adult children and five grandchildren. Notable personal achievements include early entrepreneurship—selling sweet corn at age 10, buying a tractor at 13, and farming up to 75 acres in high school—followed by running an excavating business building terraces, ponds, and tiling; he has also been a Boy Scout, bow hunter, motorcycle racer, stock car racer, certified soccer referee, and parachute airplane pilot.

Education and Political Experience

Sires attended Lincoln Elementary, Holmes Junior High, and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1979; he studied economics at the University of Northern Iowa in the early 1980s. Politically, he served four years as Councilman At-Large in Cedar Falls, the largest city in District 38, focusing on listening to and helping constituents. Elected to the Iowa Senate in the 2024 election for his first term , he serves on committees including Agriculture, Local Government, Natural Resources and Environment, Technology, Workforce, and the Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee; he previously served on Appropriations.
