Biography

Dave Rowley resides in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He is married to his wife, Kris, and they have been married for 45 years. The couple has four adult children and four grandchildren. They are members of First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji.

Professionally, Rowley enjoyed a 37-year career in the property and casualty insurance industry. His work spanned underwriting and marketing for United Fire Group, as well as insurance agency executive management and sales. He served as President of Bank Midwest Insurance Services tri-state regional agencies and worked in consulting. He served on the board of directors for the Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa for thirteen years, including a term as President of the board from 2021 to 2022.

Rowley is also a professional musician with a lifelong career as a performing singer, guitarist, and songwriter. In 2024, he was inducted into the Iowa Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

He has been active in community leadership roles across various boards. His service includes serving as president of the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary, president of the Spirit Lake Community School Foundation, and president of The Pearson Lakes Art Center in Okoboji.

Education

Rowley graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He holds the following professional insurance designations:

Political Experience

Rowley is a member of the Republican Party. Prior to serving in the state legislature, he held leadership roles as a Chair and Co-Chair in the Dickinson County Republican Central Committee for over twelve years. He was nominated to the 2020 Republican National Convention.

Iowa Senate Service
Rowley was first elected to the Iowa Senate in a special election on December 14, 2021, winning with 75.6% of the vote. He was sworn in as Iowa Senator for District 1 on January 10, 2022. In this capacity, he represented Clay, Dickinson, Lyon, Osceola, and Palo Alto counties.

Following state redistricting, Rowley was elected to his first full four-year term to represent District 5 in November 2022. He currently represents Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Winnebago, and part of Clay counties. In the 2022 Republican primary for District 5, he defeated David D. Dow, and in the general election, he faced only write-in opposition.

In 2024, Rowley received the Iowa Senate's Republican Platform Champion award for casting the highest number of votes in the senate that aligned with the Republican platform in 2023.
