Biography
Daryl L. Porter Jr. is a Democratic member of the Mississippi House of Representatives representing District 98. A native of Summit, Mississippi, he is a licensed personal injury attorney and one of the youngest elected officials in the town's history, having previously served on the Summit Town Council. Notable achievements include securing over $30 million in funding for District 98, serving as parliamentarian of the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus, and currently holding the position of Vice Chair of the Mississippi House Democratic Caucus. He serves on the Education, Judiciary B, Medicaid, Municipalities, and Public Utilities committees, and is active in his community as a trustee and junior deacon at Summit Missionary Baptist Church, founder of a young men’s mentoring group, and member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2013; obtained a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Mississippi College School of Law; clerked in the Mississippi Attorney General’s office as a law student.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Summit Town Council, where he helped build a new wastewater plant, revitalize the historic downtown, and improve infrastructure. Elected to the Mississippi House in November 2019, assuming office on January 7, 2020.
