Biography
Senator Danny Verdin ** represents **District 9 in the South Carolina Senate, covering Greenville, Laurens, and Union Counties. Born on May 9, 1964, at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, Louisiana, he is a lifelong South Carolina resident, small business owner of Verdin’s Farm and Garden Center and Verdin’s Too , and a farmer. Married to Kimberlee “Kim” Owens since 1987, they have four children and eight grandchildren, and are active members of Faith Free Presbyterian Church in Greenville.
Notable achievements and positions include first elected to the Senate in 2000, upsetting a four-term incumbent to help Republicans gain a majority; Chairman of the Senate Medical Affairs Committee ; former Chairman of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee ; Majority Whip for Senate Republican Caucus . He has led on key legislation like repealing Certificate of Need , the Heartbeat bill , and state government restructuring . Awards include Legislator of the Year from South Carolina Farm Bureau , Veterinarians Association , and others; Friend of the Taxpayer ; John W. Parris Agricultural Leadership Award ; Bob Jones University Honored Alumnus.
