Biography
Representative Daniel Perez
Daniel Anthony Perez was born on June 22, 1987, in New York City, New York. He is a first-generation Cuban-American who moved to Florida with his family in 1993, settling in the Westchester neighborhood of Miami-Dade County, which he continues to represent today. Perez is married to Stephanie Perez and has three children: Camila Lucia, Matías Daniel, and Paulina Andrea. He is a practicing attorney and serves as in-house legal counsel for Doctors Health Care Plans, Inc. Perez is a member of the Catholic faith.
Education
Perez earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Government from Florida State University in 2009. He subsequently attended Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor degree in 2012. He worked as an associate attorney at Cole, Scott & Kissane, P.A. from 2014 to 2018 before transitioning into full-time public service.
Political Experience
Perez is a Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing District 116 in Miami-Dade County. He was first elected to the House in a special election held on September 26, 2017, winning 65.8% of the vote. He was reelected in 2018 and subsequently in subsequent elections.
Current Position: Perez currently serves as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives , having been nominated Speaker-designate in September 2023 and succeeding Paul Renner after the 2024 elections.
Committee Leadership: Throughout his tenure, Perez has chaired the Rules Committee, Judiciary Committee, Pandemic & Public Emergencies Committee, and Public Integrity & Elections Committee.
Legislative Focus: During his time in office, Perez has championed legislation related to child welfare, healthcare, family stability, education, and election integrity. Notable legislative efforts include pushing forward the "Tackling and Reforming Unlawful Migration Policy Act" , though this brought him into disagreement with Governor Ron DeSantis over its scope. Perez has also demonstrated independence from executive pressure, notably supporting an override of a gubernatorial veto on legislative operations funding.
