Daniel Nguyen is a Democratic representative for Oregon House District 38, which includes Lake Oswego, South Waterfront, and portions of Southwest Portland. Born in Camas, Washington, to Vietnamese refugees who arrived in the U.S. in 1975, he founded and owns the Bambuza Hospitality Group, starting with Bambuza Vietnam Kitchen in 2008, which became the longest-running storefront in Portland's South Waterfront. Elected to the Lake Oswego City Council in 2018, he made history as the first person of color and first Vietnamese-American public official in Oregon. He won a close Democratic primary by 28 votes and defeated Republican Alistair Firmin in the 2022 general election, assuming office January 9, 2023, and currently serving his second term. Nguyen serves as Chair of the House Committee on Economic Development, Small Business, and Trade, and is a member of the Joint Committee on Information and Technology Management and the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Transportation and Economic Development. He is active on the Oregon Community Foundation's Metro Leaders Council, Oregon Treasury Savings Network, Oregon Innovation Council, and Oregon Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs.
