Biography

Danica A. Roem is a Democratic member of the Virginia State Senate representing District 30, which includes all of Manassas City and Manassas Park City, and parts of Prince William County. Born on September 30, 1984, in Manassas, Virginia, she is the first openly transgender person elected and seated in a U.S. state legislature, achieving this milestone in the Virginia House of Delegates in 2018 after winning in 2017. Notable achievements include serving in the House from 2018–2024 before transitioning to the Senate in 2024, working as a journalist for over a decade covering transportation and the state legislature, and currently serving as Executive Director of Emerge Virginia. She serves on Senate committees including Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources; General Laws and Technology; Local Government; and Transportation, and is known for sponsoring legislation and advocating on issues like ending hunger.
