Biography
Dane Watro is a Republican representing Pennsylvania's 116th Legislative District in the state House of Representatives, covering parts of Luzerne and Schuylkill Counties. A lifelong Republican and U.S. Army veteran, he is currently serving his second term and resides in McAdoo with his wife, Angela, and two daughters. Notable achievements include guarding Saddam Hussein in Iraq as part of an FBI-selected unit, receiving FBI commendations for combating international terrorism, and prior service as mayor of McAdoo for eight years .
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Hazleton Area High School in 1995; studied criminal justice at Central Texas College while in the U.S. Army.
- Military Service: Enlisted in the U.S. Army post-high school; stationed at the Korean Demilitarized Zone and Fort Hood, Texas; reenlisted for Operation Iraqi Freedom, deployed to Baghdad until March 2005; honorably discharged.
- Professional Experience: Worked with at-risk youth at Correctional Service Corporation; drill sergeant and case manager at juvenile justice facilities; attendance officer for Hazleton Area School District.
- Community Service: Former vice chairman, Kline Township Municipal Authority; member, McAdoo Uniform Construction Code Appeals Board; chairman, McAdoo Borough Civil Service Commission; board member, United Charities Inc. of Hazleton/United Children’s Home; member of VFW, Lions Club, and AMVETS.
- Political Roles: Serves on House committees including Education, Insurance, Local Government, Professional Licensure, and Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness; appointed to the School Safety and Security Committee under the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency; Republican Policy Committee Deputy Chair .
