Biography
Dan Roberts is a Republican state senator representing District 15 in the Alabama State Senate, which includes portions of Jefferson, Shelby, and Talladega counties such as Homewood, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Alabaster, Pelham, and Sylacauga. Elected in 2018, he is ranked among the most conservative members of the Senate and has received awards including “Legislator of the Year” from Alabama Utility Contractors in 2019 and “Policy Warrior” from the Alabama Policy Institute. He serves as co-chair of the Senate Transportation & Energy Committee and holds positions on committees including Governmental Affairs, Healthcare, Banking & Insurance, Children, Youth & Human Services, and Fiscal Responsibility & Economic Development. Previously, he co-chaired the Joint Legislative Task Force on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Roberts owns a real estate sales and development firm in Birmingham and has extensive community involvement, including as an Elder at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Chairman of Briarwood Ballet, and board member of Briarwood Christian School. He is married to Kelly Roberts and has three sons, two daughters-in-law, and six grandchildren.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Building Construction from Auburn University; Master of Science in Real Estate Development and Urban Affairs from Georgia State University.
- Early Career: Worked for Blount International in Alabama, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia; started an international trading company with an office in South Korea; employed by Jim Wilson and Associates in Montgomery; founded his own real estate firm in Birmingham.
- Student Leadership: Active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Auburn Student Government Association .
- Community Service: Chairman of Racerunners and Leachman Ministries boards; involved with Entrepreneurs Round Table, Alabama Policy Institute, Young Business Leaders, Campus Outreach International, and College Golf Fellowship; former chaplain of Auburn University Baseball Team; coached his sons' baseball teams; helped launch Campus Outreach Brazil in 1998-99.
- Political Experience: Alabama State Senate, District 15 ; Chair, Local Legislation Shelby County Committee; various committee roles including Vice Chair, Children, Youth & Human Services Committee, and former Vice Chair, Transportation and Energy Committee.
