Biography
Dan McKee is a Democrat serving as the 76th Governor of Rhode Island, representing the entire state . Born on June 16, 1951, in Cumberland, Rhode Island, he is a lifelong resident who ascended to the governorship in March 2021 upon the resignation of Gina Raimondo and was re-elected to a full term in 2022. Notable achievements include leading one of the nation's best COVID-19 vaccine rollouts, achieving Rhode Island's record-low unemployment, supporting small businesses with federal CARES Act funds, suing Big Pharma over the opioid crisis alongside 26 mayors, and improving Cumberland's finances from a "junk bond" rating to AA with a budget surplus during his mayoral tenure. He has also championed education initiatives like Cumberland's Mayor’s Office for Children, Youth, and Learning and the Lt. Governor’s Entrepreneurship Challenge, coached youth basketball to state championships, and owned small businesses in the Blackstone Valley.
