Biography
Representative Dan Johnston
Dan Johnston is a Republican member of the North Dakota House of Representatives representing District 24, which includes Kathryn. He was first elected to the state house in 2016, served from 2017 to 2020, and returned to the legislature in 2025. He is a retired Army veteran and small business owner. Johnston is married to Wendi and has eight children. He is active in veteran and community organizations, including membership in VFW Post #2764, DAV Post #24, and the NRA.
Education
Johnston holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Accounting and Religion from Liberty University, as well as an MA in Public Policy and Public Administration.
Political Experience
Johnston represents District 24 in the North Dakota House of Representatives. In 2020, he sought the Republican nomination for North Dakota State Treasurer, receiving endorsements from ND Right to Life, former State Treasurer Kelly Schmidt, Senator Kevin Cramer, and President Donald Trump. Though he was poised to face fellow state representative Thomas Beadle at the 2020 Republican state convention, the convention was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
