Daniel R. Hawkins
Daniel R. Hawkins was born on November 1, 1960, and is an American politician from Kansas. He spent part of his early childhood on his grandfather's dairy farm in southern Harper County and later served in the Kansas Army National Guard, where he developed leadership skills that would inform his legislative career.
Before entering politics, Hawkins built a career in the insurance industry starting in 1995. For over 30 years, he specialized in employee benefits and helping small businesses navigate insurance coverage.
Political Experience
Hawkins is a Republican who has represented District 100 in the Kansas House of Representatives since 2013, serving the Wichita area. He currently holds the position of Speaker of the House, having been elected to that role in 2023.
Prior to becoming Speaker, Hawkins served as Chair of the House Health Committee and was elected Majority Leader in 2019, serving two terms in that position before his promotion to Speaker.
The American Conservative Union gave him a lifetime rating of 78% in 2017.

During his tenure in legislative leadership, Hawkins has been instrumental in advancing several policy initiatives, including tax reform measures, education policy changes regarding student athlete eligibility, and efforts related to election procedures.
