Biography

Representative Cynthia Neeley

Cynthia Renay Neeley is a Democratic state representative serving Michigan's 70th House District, which encompasses Flint, Burton, and Flint Township. She is currently serving her third full term in the Michigan House of Representatives.

Representative Neeley is a community-focused legislator and former small business owner who has made significant contributions to her district. She resides in Flint with her husband, Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley, and their two daughters. She is an active member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and takes pride in community activism by attending local events and engaging with community leaders and residents throughout her district.

Her legislative priorities include ensuring clean drinking water for Michigan residents, increasing access to affordable health care, appropriately funding schools, ensuring fair wages for all, supporting job training and skill development initiatives, and promoting crime prevention and gun safety. As a product of a union family, she advocates for legislation supporting unions, healthcare, and prevailing wages.

Education

Representative Neeley graduated from Star City High School in Star City, Arkansas. She later moved to Flint and attended Mott Community College, where she received her cosmetology license.

Political Experience

Neeley was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives on March 10, 2020, in a special election to fill the vacated 34th House District, assuming office on March 17, 2020. Following redistricting, she ran in the 70th district in 2022 and won reelection. She was reelected again in 2024.

Throughout her tenure, Representative Neeley has introduced and co-sponsored over 200 pieces of legislation. She serves on several House committees, including Finance, Health Policy, and Regulatory Reform. In the 2020 presidential election, she endorsed Joe Biden.
