Biography

Cynthia D. Borrego is a Democratic member of the New Mexico House of Representatives, representing District 17 since January 2023. Notable achievements include her prior service as Albuquerque City Council President, over 28 years as a city planner, and leadership in securing the state's $14 billion PERA retirement fund during the 2009 recession.

Cynthia D. Borrego, a Native New Mexican, owns Cyba & Assoc., LLC and a small retail business in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque featuring artisan jewelry. She previously served on the Albuquerque City Council for District 5 , acting as Vice-President in 2019 and chairing the Land Use and Zoning Committee. Other roles include Board of Directors for the Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority , Middle Rio Grande Council of Governments, Rio Grande Credit Union , and UNM School of Public Administration Advisory Alumni Board . Her priorities encompass balanced budgets, public safety, mental health, child welfare, education, infrastructure, economic development, and government transparency.
