Biography
Cynthia J. Ball is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 49 in Wake County. First elected in 2016, she has been re-elected in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024, securing her fifth term. She currently serves as House Deputy Democratic Leader in the 2025-2026 session and previously held roles including Freshman Democratic Chair, Democratic Whip, Co-Chair of the House Democratic Caucus Campaign, and Democratic Conference Chair. Her occupation is mediator, and she owns a mediation and consulting business. Notable achievements include sponsoring or co-sponsoring 213 pieces of legislation in the 2023-24 session, focusing on public education funding, teacher pipelines, mental health responses, voting rights, and healthcare services in schools. She was named Representative of the Year in 2022 by the NC League of Conservation Voters for her environmental advocacy.
