Biography
Cynthia Lee Almond is a Republican attorney and politician from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, born in 1964 or 1965. She currently serves as president of the Alabama Public Service Commission, appointed by Governor Kay Ivey on June 6, 2025. Previously, she represented District 63 in the Alabama House of Representatives from 2021 to 2025 and served four terms on the Tuscaloosa City Council from 2005 to 2021, including as President Pro Tem and Chair of the Finance Committee. Notable achievements include chairing the Tuscaloosa County Local Legislative Delegation, sponsoring bills to expedite payments to violent crime victims, and her sole Republican "nay" vote against an anti-ESG bill in 2023.
Education
Almond graduated from Central High School in Tuscaloosa, attended Vanderbilt University, earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and Spanish from the University of Alabama, and received a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1990.
