Biography

Cyndi Ann Munson is a Democratic member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives representing District 85 since winning a special election in 2015. She serves as House Minority Leader since 2022, becoming the first Asian American woman elected to the Oklahoma Legislature and the first Asian American nominee for Speaker. Notable achievements include leading bipartisan efforts to repeal the state sales tax on groceries, securing increased public school funding, passing patient protections against insurance "step therapy," and advocating for children, women, working families, public education, criminal justice reform, and tribal sovereignty. She announced her candidacy for Governor of Oklahoma in April 2025. Born in Monterey, California, to a Vietnam War veteran father and a mother from Seoul, South Korea, she was raised in Lawton, Oklahoma, and became the first in her family to graduate college thanks to the Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship.
